We are actively evaluating and implementing changes to all of our working process with the target of a 95% waste reduction by the end of 2011.
With ever increasing cost to business of waste removal and the associated impact of landfill on the environment, it is in all of our interests to take action to reduce waste and recycle wherever possible. We do not claim to be environmentalists however, the more we focus our attention on reducing waste and ways of recycling the greater our understanding has become of the link between good business and environmental issues. We are in no doubt that it is clearly the way forward.
We embarked on this project at a time when our annual cost of waste removal reached £20,000 for skips alone. In late 2009 we decided to investigate ways of reducing our energy consumption, it soon became clear that the heating of our factory workshops was a major cost. We looked at various options and after much discussion and advice we finally decided on the purchase of a biomass heating system. This system has allowed us to use waste materials as fuel and vastly reduce our landfill output by at least 80% coupled with the complete removal of the previous Gas heating system.
